Here’s to Chuckles…

Posted on January 5, 2006 by Tina

I sadly had to put my feline friend of 12+ years down tonight… my kitty cat Chuck.

He’s been sick with heart failure and other assorted health problems since September, so I knew this was coming… but it is hard none-the-less. :(

I got Chuckles when I was but a teenager in my second year of college (named him Chuckles cause I thought he was a girl at the time, doh!). He was my first pet, and spent many an hour sleeping on my head while I watched TV in the evenings (his favorite place to snooze).

So to all you pet owners out there, give your fuzzy, feathery and scaley ones a big kiss on the head today from me. They are a precious gift in our lives.

  1. Tina, I’m so sorry to hear about Chuck. It’s so hard to lose an animal, especially one who was with you through so many years and life changes..

    He’s at peace now.

    You are in our thoughts,
    Shari

  2. Tina, my thoughts are with you, it’s not an easy thing to euthanize a dear pet, even though it might be the right thing. I had to do the same to my beloved Biscuit, a gorgeous brown classic Maine Coon girl of sixteen years, in 2004. It was one of the hardest goodbyes I’ve ever had to make. Here’s a link to my blog entry about it and her picture if you’re interested:

What impressed me was the sensitivity of the veterinary staff, and how quick it all was. Chuck is out of pain now and I know, just like the Biscuit, is still “with you” in spirit. Makes me feel better to know that these dear ones are waiting on the other side for us…

Love and healing energy to you,
    Maryam

  3. Thanks Shari and Maryam.

And what a cutie Biscuit is! We always thought Chuck had some Maine Coon in him, such a beautiful breed of cat. (And being big cats why Chuck always weighed in around 20 pounds).

  4. Tina: Toby and I want you to know our thoughts are with you and Chuckles. We know he was a firm fixture in your life. We lost 3 little angels this year in similar circumstances and have “put them on notice” to welcome and watch out for Chuckles as he settles in to his new life. With warmth Bev McLagan and Toby Silverton

  5. Hi Tina -

My zoo and I send our deepest sympathies. I am facing the same thing in the very near future. Before Christmas, one of my fuzzy feline friends was diagnosed with a couple of cancerous masses in his stomach.

We are giving him lots of love and TLC and watching closely to make certain that he maintains a good quality of life.

Hearing about Chuckles and seeing his picture brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat as the reality of what we are facing again hits home.

Warmth and happiness to you and your family -

    Kathy
