How do I pay my support team?

Posted on October 7, 2004 by Tina

Great question from Mitch Bowers:

Question:

I do have a question around how the support team is paid. I am curious how the base fee plus commission is structured for the support staff. The reason I ask is I have subcontracted out an individual to help design some of the components of my practice.

I am very interested in how this works from a win/win for Chris [Barrow] and support staff. I would like to use the same concept to keep my sub-contractor financially interested in the outcome of my success.

Hi Mitch,

Happy to share…

We do what i would call a “commission with a guaranteed base”

ie: 10% of revenues or $1000 flat/month… whichever is higher

you want the flat rate to be high enough to keep the person engaged, yet low enough to motivate them to do their share in increasing business… this amount could vary from person to person… i would say 500-1000/month for a pt person, and maybe 2000+ish for a f/t person

this way the person knows that they are at *least* getting their flat rate each month vs. having to live with fluctuating or low income in the beginning

a win win on both sides
