QQ: Search Engine Optimization

Posted on June 2, 2006 by Tina

A quick question from Amanda…

The biggest question would be search engine optimization. How do I get my website to be listed on top without paying top $$$

A program I would highly recommend is Brad Fallons ‘Stomping the Search Engines’. I bought this one about a year ago and it is great… he gets great rankings for his own businesses and explains exactly how he does it. Everything from what to put on your webpage (titles, keywords, etc) to linking and more.

You can also hire someone to help with search engine rankings… however this can be expensive and there are some ‘duds’ out there who make big promises that they can’t deliver… so be sure to get a recommendation or referrals before hiring someone.

  1. Podcasting has turned out to be the one thing that has gotten me listed high in search engines. Check out the keyword phrases “selling mistakes” and “podcasting expert” in google. Look for my name. Where do I rank?

You don’t need to hire a search engine expert. If you have a website, pay someone to turn it into a blog, then optimize your posts with keywords phrases that you want to be listed for in search engines. Search engines loves fresh content and blogs & podcasts are listed higher than just a plain ol’ webpage.

  2. Here’s what I find frustrating about SEO — everywhere I turn, I get not only different advice, but advice that directly conflicts! and this isn’t just reading about it on the web, this is from people I know or whom are recommended by people I know (and trust).

My only hope is that something more “intelligent” will come along that eclipses the SEO “game”, makes SEO obsolete, and uses some type of user ranking system or whatever…there’s gotta be a better way!
