I had become two people. I had two lives. I couldn't wait to come home in my giant, gas-guzzling BMW I'd purchased as a tax write-out, and I couldn't wait to get out of my Armani (high heels, all of that rubbish) and into yoga or workout hiking gear, and I couldn't wait to get out into the forest behind our house with my three Siberian husky friends (who had become my greatest joy in life) and ate only organic and was more and more enraged by injustices in the world and more and more engaged in how to become a part of a tribe of people who were proactively working for a better world and who... really meant that... and I remember distinctly the evening I drove up in that BMW and pulled into my parking space and realized that I'd already taken off my suit jacket, heels, stockings, jewelry. I knew then that I was not going to stay in that cage and that I no longer belonged in that world and that, while I was making fantastic money and had a crazy list of big brand clients I was in charge of -- that I did not need to prove anything to either myself or to anyone else by continuing to rise on that ladder. That it wasn't my path. And I never looked back. Oh that’s easy. I had become two people. I had two lives. My 14 year old is on his getting ready to go to high school and my husband did not want him to go to school in the current area we live in. So we were going to move to NC. Thinking about this move,place to live, schools, getting an another car, and the job search made me realize I don't want to search for another job. To be honest I have the ideal work situation with having a child under 2 along with a 14 year old, and I really don't want to work here. So why move to another area to be trapped in the same situation. That's when I decided to really look at my online ventures a bit more and setting a good foundation for business. Although we did not move to NC (hubby got bit the the politics bug so he's running for a local public seat) I realize that as I work here I'm unemployable. As much as I love the flexibility it is still not enough and I need to be on my terms. I hope that makes some kind of sense. Can you be considered unemployable even though you have a job? I was the manager and my boss was the owner who fought breast cancer for 12yrs. I spent 8 of the years working beside her and together we made the decisions for "our" business. I was a partner without the legal partnership. In November, 2008, she passed away. We were unable to keep the store going due to financial issues and I could not afford to take the store over. In February, 2009, I closed the door, and with much sadness I was suddenly unemployed. I loved the work I did. I realized then that I could not go to work for someone or a company again. I had the experience of self-employment and "running the show". I then decided that was the step to working for myself. I did an inventory of my skills and then decided that being a virtual assistant was for me. I wanted to help small business owners reach their goals to success.
