My friend Sheri McConnell has a brand new book out today - Smart Women Know Their Why. I got a sneak peek at this book just last month and it was very timely for me as I was at the point where I needed to reconnect with my WHY (don’t you love when the answer shows up right when you need it? ) Really great read and I highly recommend it. Here is an excerpt for you from the book…

Authenticity or the state of being real not only feels good, is easy to manage (let’s face it, you don’t have to remember who you were pretending to be!) and more importantly, it leads to new levels of awareness and growth.  When you are willing to just be yourself in your relationships (business and otherwise) everyone wins because the energy vibration is much higher.  When we give into the expectations of others, we begin to die.  So authenticity is really about being faithful to the internal rather than external.

So many of my customers and yours really want to do business with people they like, they know, and most importantly trust.  Being authentic is peaceful and profitable. Follow the four part path below to become more aware and practice authenticity:

One—Decide
Before anything and before everything comes decision.  Let the universe know you are ready to be real and to grow. Trust me, you will be heard.

Two—Focus on the “Why”
After decision, remember to stop and take time for the most important question of all.  Why?  See chapter two for help during your journey along this part of the path.

Three—Commit and Recommit
Did I mention that you would have to decide over and over again and well, you never get to stop asking “why?”  Not if you want to grow.

Four—Let the Universe Flow Through You
Ahhh. The entire reason you are taking your journey is because of this part of the path. Bliss and joy are your rewards. This part of the path is what makes being an entrepreneur somewhat of a manic experience because the highs can be addictive and all consuming. When the universe flows through you, time literally disappears and you forget about all the other parts of the path.

As per my rant of a few weeks back - you know i’m a huge fan of getting out and meeting people face to face. Not only is this an excellent way to find new clients (the best way in fact) it’s just plain fun. After being home with my girls for 4 years I just started “leaving the house” again last fall – attending a number of conferences as well as my mastermind sessions. And let me tell you, this alone has been the reason that my business has grown by leaps and bounds this year. I’ve been able to meet people i’ve already known for years online (and deepen the relationship) as well as meet new folks too – all of whom are my fellow entrepreneurs and *get* me and what i’m building (unlike my family who is still confused, LOL.)

My mentor David Neagle together with Suzanne Evans are hosting the More Life Tour* – an 8 city entrepreneurial extravaganza starting here in June. These are one-day jam packed events with a focus on creating abundance for yourself while making a difference in the world of those that you serve. Does it get any better than that? I was reminded this week how great a resource Elance is – we needed someone to do some fast turnaround graphics for us, and as always we got a really good response to our posting and found an excellent designer who did a great job.

It had been a really long time since i’d used Elance to find help – i’m not sure why exactly? I think I forgot that it was there to be quite honest, I tend to look for help within my network of VAs & OBMs first whenever I need help. And although I usually do find the help I need, being the busy bunch of pros that they are many times people aren’t available for those last minute projects that crop up from time to time.

Whereas Elance is a great resource to find people who are willing and able to start *now*. I’ve found it particularily great for finding help with graphics and audio/video editing… and we even found a great event manager there years ago (who later became a key part of our team.)

If you do a job posting at Elance a few tips:

• be as specific as possible about your needs – include examples/drafts if possible
• don’t forget to include your deadline, especially if it is urgent!
• include your budget info (which they require you do anyhow)
• ask people to include samples or a portfolio in their response (especially for graphic projects… as designers style will vary)
• when considering responses look for those who go the ‘extra mile’ – i.e. folks who actually go ahead and do a mock-up of your project, i love that!

So a reminder to myself really, and to you as well… when you need speedy help or if you are stuck trying to find help in other places don’t forget about Elance.

A sure sign of being a geek is when finding a new system just makes you want to sing out loud in glee! I will admit that I am a geek, and have recently ’sung out loud’ about the (relatively) new membership management system Wishlist Member.

We’ve been using Wordpress to manage our membership sites for years now – basically just piecing together some stuff in the blog to make it work. Well Wishlist Member takes a regular Wordpress blogsite and turns it into a full fledged membership system. Tres cool!

What makes it so great? Let me share a few of my favorite things…

• As per any great membership system, it allows you to setup separate login accounts for each member vs. doing the ‘one login for all’. So you can give/remove access for people as they come and go in your membership. REALLY important.
• It connects to the 1ShoppingCart system – so people can automatically get access to your membership site when they join the membership vs. having to load them manually. And it will also remove access for people who fall behind on payments.
• You can email members direct from this system – which I love! It’s super quick and easy to send messages to members vs. sending through the cart (which can be slow at times).
• You can have more than one level of membership setup in the same Wordpress blog. So people will get access only to the stuff that applies to them, and not those areas that they aren’t a member of. This really opens up some pretty cool opps for expanding membership offerings!
• It’s really easy to add a nice ‘login’ box in the sidebar of the blog. Makes the site looks so professional and is of course easy for folks to know how to login to the site (which can be surprisingly hard to find on some sites.)
